The Story

"Sometimes, when I wake up, I find myself crying..."

Synopsis

High school students Mitsuha Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana discover they are mysteriously switching bodies during their sleep. The Body Switch

Mitsuha, a high school girl from rural Itomori, wishes to live as a handsome Tokyo boy. Her wish mysteriously comes true when she begins switching bodies with Taki, a high school boy from Tokyo. They experience each other's lives, leaving notes to help navigate their temporary exchanges.

The Search

As Taki tries to meet Mitsuha in person, he discovers a shocking truth: the Itomori he knew was destroyed by a comet fragment three years ago. The body-switching had been happening across different time periods, with Mitsuha living in 2013 and Taki in 2016.

Race Against Time

Determined to save Mitsuha and the town of Itomori, Taki drinks kuchikamizake (sacred sake) at the shrine, hoping to connect with Mitsuha one last time. Through this spiritual connection, they devise a plan to evacuate the town before the comet strikes.

The Twilight Meeting

During twilight (kataware-doki), Mitsuha and Taki finally meet in their original bodies on the crater's ridge. However, as the sun sets, they begin to forget each other. Before disappearing from each other's memories, they write their names on each other's hands.
